Cable Guards

Heavy-duty rubber cable guard rolls for cable protection and pedestrian safety.
These high-resistance rubber floor guards are designed to provide durable protection for wiring in both indoor and outdoor pedestrian environments. The top-loading system allows for quick cable insertion, while the heavy-duty construction effectively reduces tripping hazards in offices, exhibition booths, and public spaces. The roll format allows for continuous coverage over long distances, meeting the specific length requirements of any installation

Technical Guide to Cable Protectors

To calculate the capacity of a cable ramp, three main rules are followed:
1. Height Verification (Critical Point): The diameter of the largest cable must be smaller than the internal height of the channel. As a rule, a 10% safety margin is left (e.g., if the channel is 30mm high, the cable should not exceed 27mm).
2. Horizontal Space Calculation (Width): The diameters of all cables that must pass through the same channel are summed.
Sum of Diameters + (Number of Cables - 1) x Maneuver Space ≤ Channel Width
Note: Cables are never perfectly straight, so some tolerance is required.
3. Fill Rule (Area): To avoid overheating (especially for power cables), you should never occupy more than 60-70% of the channel's cross-sectional area.
For a quick and easy calculation, we have designed the Technical Wiring Configurator which you can find in this technical section.

The material of a protector affects strength, flexibility, and durability. Here are the differences:

  • Rubber (Natural/Synthetic): Elastic polymer with excellent resilience. It absorbs shocks and vibrations, ensuring maximum grip on irregular surfaces.
  • TPR/TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomers): Combine the flexibility of rubber with the ease of processing of plastic. They maintain high performance across a wide range of temperatures.
  • TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane): High-performance, eco-friendly, and recyclable material. It offers significantly superior resistance to abrasion and extreme loads, ideal for heavy-duty industrial applications.

Our ramps are mainly made of Rubber or TPU. TPU offers millimetric precision and is odorless, while rubber remains the optimal choice for maximum resilience and ground stability.

The quality of rubber depends on the percentage of raw (natural) rubber present in the compound:

  • High Quality (70% raw rubber): Estimated lifespan ~8 years.
  • Good Quality (35% raw rubber - Our Standard): Best compromise between cost and reliability. Estimated lifespan ~5 years.
  • Standard/Economy (10% raw rubber): Often contains low-quality recycled plastics. Limited lifespan of ~3 years and a pungent odor.

Factors affecting operational life: Traffic frequency, type of load (static vs. dynamic/braking), and installation environment (UV rays, chemicals, extreme temperatures).

Let's assume a 40t truck passes over. Dividing the weight by the 8 wheels, we have a maximum load of 5t per wheel.
However, it is necessary to opt for a cable protector with a capacity of 10t or higher (Safety Factor) if:
  • The passage is frequent (daily).
  • The support surface is irregular.
  • Maneuvers, braking, or use in extreme environments (oils, acids) are expected.
Choosing a higher capacity ensures that the ramp does not work at its limit, drastically extending its service life.
In principle, ground fixing is not necessary; the modules are stable enough to be walked or driven over without further precautions. Each model has connectors and sockets that allow the connection of protectors of the same series infinitely to each other. If usage conditions require it, ground fixing is possible thanks to the pre-arrangements of some models or by drilling the inside of a channel.
It is possible to install cable protectors on a public road, but be careful when using some models with large dimensions like the CC078X2M because, having a height of 10 cm, some low-profile cars cannot cross it.
Please note that markings/warnings or even permits may be required when used on public roads.
A maximum vehicle speed of 5 km/h is recommended.
Cable protectors are easy and safe to install. Surfaces, edges, and corners are designed such that there is no danger of injury. Models weighing up to 20 kg can be safely transported by one person. Models weighing more than 20 kg can be safely transported by two people.
The load capacity specified in the descriptions is provided as a reference for better understanding, calculated from load tests performed in the laboratory according to the loads required by current legislation, and is considered on flat and solid ground; this can be significantly reduced on irregular or soft ground. The reference capacity of a cable ramp does not mean it will be destroyed by a vehicle exceeding that reference; it means that for vehicles under the declared capacity, the service life will be longer.

Regulations: Our products comply with D.M. 17-01-18 (Technical Standards for Construction) and Eurocodes UNI EN 1993 for road loads (Cat G - areas for medium vehicle traffic 30kN-160kN).

Environment: Unlike low-cost products of doubtful origin, the rubber of our ramps comes from specifically treated recycled tires. It does not contain chemicals that act on the endocrine and hormonal systems, nor does it contribute to the variation of soil or water pH. It contains no hazardous ingredients in accordance with EC Regulation No. 1907/2006 - REACH (Registration, Evaluation and Authorization of Chemicals).

Cable protectors help protect hoses (e.g., water/sewage) and low-voltage cables up to 500 V (e.g., communication/control/power cables). The protectors are NOT suitable for rigid gas pipes.
The protectors can be cleaned without problems, even using steam pressure washers. To always ensure optimal operation, always keep the hinge area and the closure clean, and lightly lubricate the hinge and closure at regular intervals, preferably using commercially available Teflon or silicone sprays. After application, remove excess lubricant to avoid slipping hazards.
